The new supply tunnel runs over a length of approx. 460 m beneath the buildings of the „Small Lock” and the „Large Lock” in Brunsbüttel. The starting shaft is next to the „Small Lock” on the south-eastern bank of the canal; the target shaft is next to the gate chamber of the „Large Lock” on the north-western bank. The reinforced concrete pipes of the tunnel have an inner diameter of DN 2200. The invert is approx. 30 - 37 m under ground level and in the course of this not more than 35 m under the lock water level. Construction was carried out by pipe jacking. There are two intermediate shafts along the route to connect the supply lines of the locks subsequently. After the completion of the pipe jacking, the connection to the completed supply tunnel was carried out by a hole of Ø 1800 mm from the middle wall of the „Large Lock”.

The excavation pits of the four shafts were surrounded by slotted walls and the bottoms were tightened against water pressure by a concrete floor. The shaft constructions (starting shaft Øi = 9.00 m, intermediate shaft Øi = 6.00 m, target shaft Øi = 7.00 m) were made of in-situ concrete within the excavation pits and covered with pre-fabricated reinforced concrete parts. They contain stair towers (steel construction) and rising lines for the supply lines.
