As an inclined pipe the new major sewer east takes the sewage from the former pump station Ölmühlenweg in Hamburg Wandsbek to the connection at Mittelkanal. The major sewer DN 1800 has a total length of 5800 m. The project is divided into two construction phases.
The 2nd construction phase with a length of 2500 m starts at the operating shaft Stoltenbrücke/Zirpenweg and ends in a new operating shaft in Ölmühlenweg. The reinforced concrete pipes with PEHD corrosion protection lining are installed by a tunneling machine with a slurry supported tunnel face.
The invert is up to approx. 20 m under ground level and approx. 14 m deep in the groundwater. 4 operating shafts and 5 inspection shafts are constructed along the route of the major sewer. The operating shafts are made of reinforced concrete with PEHD lining and are constructed on-site in excavation pits surrounded by slotted and bored pile walls.
The reconstruction of the existing operating shaft in Ölmühlenweg and the installation of approx. 80 m of inliner Ø 1400 in the existing pipes were also part of this construction phase.
